I am excited to share one of my favorite DIY recipes. This mango butter body mousse comes out super soft and feels like velvet on the skin. The best part is it soaks right in and does not leave a greasy residue.
Lets first talk a bit about the (very few) pure and natural ingredients we’ll be using. You’re gonna love how the ingredients are simply concentrated skincare foods without all the filler ingredients you might get in a store-bought lotion or cream.
Mango Butter
I used Mango Butter as the body butter base in this recipe. This butter is lovely to work with since it’s similar to shea butter in consistency (soft and breakable) but in its cosmetic form it is nearly unscented. Any essential oil that you want to feature in your product always comes through nicely. Mango Butter is rich with antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins that nourish the skin and boost its elasticity and suppleness. In this way it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also known to boost the skin’s luster and natural radiance while reducing the appearance of dark spots. Mango Butter soaks into the skin nicely without leaving a greasy residue and it is a bit lighter than shea butter so is nicer in warm weather as an alternative in skin care products.
Almond Oil
Almond Oil is a nutrient rich carrier oil. It deeply moisturizes and protects the skin, keeping it hydrated and supple. The vitamins and fatty acids in this oil promote collagen production and help restore natural skin radiance. It is really soothing to your skin and so concentrated that a little goes a long way for deep moisture. You can smell just a faint scent of real, raw almonds when you use it. It’s such a gentle oil with a silky consistency that does well in many applications. It is also noncomedogenic so it does not clog pores and is safe for all skin types.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil comes from the purplish-grey flowers of the lavender plant and is extremely potent when it comes to relieving the nervous system. It is known to be soothing to the body and mind. It also possesses antimicrobial and wound-healing properties so it makes a nice addition to this body mousse recipe.
Chamomile Essential Oil
Chamomile is a golden, honey/earthy scented flower related to the daisy family. It’s another relaxing favorite, and is used in teas, baking, and cooking. A cup of chamomile tea before bed helps prepare the body for a relaxing night of sleep. Did you know it’s also extremely high in antioxidants? Applying chamomile to your skin can help protect it from environmental damage and its phytoestrogenic properties help make your skin glow.
Pink Mica
Pink mica does not add any nutritional benefits to this recipe, but it’s my favorite ingredient for adding natural color and shimmer to skincare products. Mica is a natural mineral that produces a subtle cosmetic shimmer that isn’t really matched by any synthetic dyes or plastic glitters. The mineral is totally inert so it will not cause any harm to your skin or body, and the pigment is usually naturally derived as well (always remember to check this before purchasing) though anything in the baking or soap making aisle will usually be natural and safe to use for this purpose.
