With so many different weight loss plans out there, you are probably confused which one is the best for you. Although some people swear by a certain plan, some plans need to be tailored to suit individuals because we all have different needs for our bodies.
Below are some of the most popular weight loss plans around the world:
South Beach Diet
The world famous South Beach Diet was created by Arthur Agatston who was a Cardiologist, and Marie Almon who was a Dietitian. They created this weight loss plan as an alternative to the Pritkin Diet and the Ornish Diet which were promoted by the American Heart Association during the 1980s. The theory of this diet is to replace bad fats and carbohydrates with good fats and carbohydrates. Good carbohydrates are those with low GI, such as beans, whole grains, and vegetables. Bad fats include saturated fats and trans-fats, while good fats include lean meat, oily fish, and nuts.
Atkins Diet
Also known as the Atkins Nutritional Approach, the Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that was formulated by Dr. Robert Atkins. This approach consists of 4 phases of dietary changes. This was a popular diet especially around 2005, as it was more cheaper than Jenny Craig but more expensive compared to Weight Watchers.
Jenny Craig
One of the world’s most popular weight management programs is Jenny Craig. This holistic program combines exercise, nutrition, and counseling to help change lifestyle habits. Clients have their own individual consultant, and customers are given a planned menu that uses Jenny Craig’s food line. However, they are later allowed to change their diet in order to suit their diet. These diets are created to suit everybody, as they are suitable for vegetarians, teenagers, diabetics, elderly, pregnant women, and men.
Weight Watchers
Operating in 30 countries, Weight Watchers is a household name for weight loss management programs. The program is considered as one of the most effective weight loss diets and can actually decrease cardiac risk factors. This program helps members choose a weight loss goal that correlates with a healthy body mass index or other weight loss goal that is chosen with the assistance of their Doctor. This is a community group and members are required to attend Weight Watchers meetings. Those unable to make it to meetings have access to web-based tools which help to provide support and share advice.
